A Death in the Family

A Death in the Family

In just a few hours, Starlight Productions will take the upstairs “stage” at the Santa Barbara Clubhouse Sports Grill & Bar to perform “A Death in the Family.”  Ticket sales have been decent, but there are still some seats open and walk-ins are accepted.

Tickets are only $50.00 per person for a great dinner and the hilarious show, and can be purchased from the Clubhouse, 2114 Santa Barbara Blvd, near Cape Coral High School, 239-574-7050.  Their website is www.clubhousesportsgrill.com.  We encourage all supporters of the arts and theatre in Cape Coral to come out!

It Worked for E.T….

img_4900From Director Marty Wisher: Today was such a fun day on the set. A bit too cold for us Floridians though (anything under 70 is deemed freezing).

But since we continue today’s scene in a few weeks the actors had to dress for our usually delightful warm weather. They were such pros at adjusting to all the necessary script changes (location change, character change, script change – but that’s show biz!)

Mitch (who plays CD) gave us one of our best bloopers today. The scene opens in the middle of a conversation. The conversation has the characters of Will & Kevin arguing over who is the hottest assistant in Doctor Who (they’ll also reference some other of my faves – Stargate: Atlantis, Primeval, and Lost) Anyway, for those who don’t know Dr. Who (shame on you) the choice is between the characters Rose and Martha.

Well, while rehearsing the scene, Mitch says “Martha. That’s a name for old ladies!”

I slowly removed my sunglasses and stated “You know that Marty is my nickname. Right? Short for Martha…” He went pale. The kids burst into laughter. Mitch buries his head in his arms.

Tim (Director of Photography) pipes up, “You are so not being asked to do the sequel.”

We all look at Tim and realize the camera was on the whole time. Mitch turns beet red and the laughter continues.

Can’t wait to see what happens at the next shoot.

Thanks to Chris Terrill at Oasis High School for allowing us to borrow some school-logo-ed items for the shoot. And thanks to Sue Rawley for the photos.

Cooking Spaghetti

Today we continued filming.  Chalane was so sweet in allowing Joey to take a role.  And many thanks to his therapist getting him prepared for the part.  “Jake. Max. Bye-bye.”

Since one of the scenes shot today was a dinner scene at character Jake’s home, Marty thought she’d cook enough for everyone at the set.  Sounds simple enough. Have to feed them anyway.

So, as the crew is running around adjusting lights, props, etc.  Someone asks “What’s that burning smell?”

working-with-joeyFrom Marty – “I have no idea how it happened!  I’ve boiled water and pasta before (Chalane begs to differ).  It was a huge pot. The kind to feed an army.  And – oh maybe I put 5 or 6 packages of noodles in. But it certainly should not have turned black and had smoke curls billowing out of it.  For those who don’t believe me, it will end up in one of the scenes as Paul (who plays Joe) walks in, pulls the noodles up- dark charcoal side to the camera and ad-libs, “I guess we’ll be ordering take out tonight”

Good thing that the chocolate cake was from the Publix bakery.

We’re still hard at work shooting and editing Light, but we’re also keeping busy on the stages of Southwest Florida.

macbethmed1Sean Genther, who plays Lucas’ father Blake in Light, is currently appearing on stage at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in downtown Fort Myers (the old Post Office/Federal Building on First Street) in a modern retelling of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and does a fantastic job playing both Ross and Caithness.  The show runs Jan 7,8,9,10,14,15, 16 , & 17.  Tickets are only $20.00 and can be obtained by calling the Center at 239-337-1933, or visiting their website,  www.sbdac.com.

Meanwhile, Starlight Productions is doing their part to bring more culture into Cape Coral.  On January 24th, Paul Rose, Teresa Cobb & Marty Wisher will join John Nicolette, Kaylee Ann Wisher and Light star Keegan Shayne in presenting the hilarious murder mystery, “A Death in the Family,” written by Marty Wisher at the Santa Barbara Clubhouse Sports Grill & Bar in an effort to bring dinner theatre to the city.  Tickets are only $50.00 per person for dinner and the show, and can be purchased from the Clubhouse, 2114 Santa Barbara Blvd, near Cape Coral High School, 239-574-7050.  Their website is www.clubhousesportsgrill.com.

Director Marty Wisher

Light resumed shooting on Sunday, January 4th, back on set at Mr. Tim’s house for everything we didn’t get shot the last time.  A lot of hard work and a little bit of fun, as usual.  A special thank you to Director Marty Wisher and Susan Rawley (also known as Danny’s mom) for the photos, since producer Paul Rose was busy with his sister’s wedding in Fort Lauderdale and couldn’t make it.
